Academy of Ancient Music

"A tale of four cities"

A photograph of Pavlo Besnosiuk. The Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) was one of the world’s first period-instrument ensembles and is now in its fourth decade as one of the finest. Hugely popular concerts across six continents and over 250 critically acclaimed recordings since its formation by Christopher Hogwood in 1973 demonstrate the AAM’s pre-eminence in music of the Baroque and Classical periods.

Pavlo Beznosiuk will lead a chamber group of orchestra principals in a weekend of concerts united by the theme of the Grand Tour, featuring music from four key cities on the route of the eighteenth century aristocrat’s European sojourn: London, Dresden, Paris, and Rome.

Soprano Lorna Anderson, a renowned performer of the baroque repertoire, joins the AAM in Taunton for the concerts from Paris and Rome.

‘In terms of engagement with the music, each other, and their audience, this was an exhilarating performance… Beznosiuk’s direction was as characterful as his playing of the solo parts… In the world of period-instrument orchestras, the AAM have a sound and style that is truly distinctive.’
