A recital by Associate Artists of the Classical Opera Company
17/03/2008
The Classical Opera Company is renowned for its work in developing exceptional young singers. In this recital at the Wigmore Hall on Friday 18 April, the company showcases its current Associate Artists in a programme of arias and ensembles by three of the greatest composers of the eighteenth century.
The repertoire features three sublime Haydn arias from his often neglected operatic output, framed by a varied selection from the operas of Handel and Mozart. The recital will be introduced and accompanied by the Classical Opera Company’s conductor and artistic director Ian Page.
The Classical Opera Company is unique among UK opera companies in performing regularly at world-class venues such as Sadler's Wells, the Barbican and Wigmore Hall and yet holding at the very centre its mission the development of young artists. Of their seven Associate Artists to date - the scheme was established in 2006 - three are already performing major roles at Covent Garden despite still being in their mid-twenties, and the others are all attracting the attention of major houses.
