Turin, Genoa, Milan and its Duchy
21/01/2010
Milan & its Duchy (17–24 May 2010) visits the area around Milan, the wealthiest and most powerful territory in mediaeval and Renaissance Europe. Based in attractive Cremona as well as in Milan itself, the tour takes in palaces, castle and abbeys, with great fresco paintings a major feature.
Great art and architecture, from mediaeval to Baroque, features in
Genoa and Turin (24–30 May 2010). Both cities are inexplicably by-passed by tourists who perhaps conceive the great cities as mere commercial and industrial hubs rather than places of great historical and cultural pedigree. Genoa was one of the leading maritime republics of mediaeval Italy and, as such, a bitter enemy of Venice, before enjoying a remarkable golden age during the seventeenth century. Turin, leading city of Piedmont and former capital of Savoy, was laid out on a grand scale in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and its vast and elegant historic centre remains a beguiling blend of central Europe and Italy.
There are places remaining on both these tours to Italy, visiting the country at a particularly pleasant time of the year. Visit the tour pages via the links above or
