Don Greig, founder member of the Orlando Consort, released his first novel on 1st September. Entitled Time Will Tell, the hardback and Kindle versions are now available on Amazon.
The novel itself concerns the fate of a medieval manuscript, a large-scale composition written by a 15th-century composer. It has been discovered by an ambitious American music historian who is on his way to France for an academic conference, where he hopes to convince a British early-music group to stage its first performance. The problem for him is that he cannot decode the musical notation. A 15th-century memoir interleaves the modern tale and relates the genesis of the composition, a story of ambition and treachery, featuring composers like Ockeghem, Josquin and Compère. Think The Name of the Rose meets The Da Vinci Code written by David Lodge.
Though the subject is music, no specialist knowledge is required; it is about character, is lightly written and features moments of farce.
