Martin Randall Travel's latest pioneering music festival will be in Oxford in from 24–28 September 2012.
The principle behind these is matching classical music with historic venues. Past successes include music festivals in Venice, Rome, Naples, St Petersburg, the Bach Journey and an Austro-Hungarian festival on the Danube.
Music has accompanied liturgical services since the founding of the early colleges in Oxford, and choral church music is still a living tradition. Many of Britain's professional singers and choristers have passed through college choirs, and English liturgical singing is consequently the best in the world.
Highlights for the Oxford Festival include:
• seventeen performances of English choral music in five Oxford colleges
• internationally acclaimed professional ensembles, including the Tallis Scholars, the Gabrieli Consort and Westminster Cathedral Choir
• four college choirs: Christ Church, Magdalen, Merton and New College, with performances in these colleges
• a package including hotel accommodation (or college accommodation), most meals with drinks, talks on the music by four lecturers and a full programme booklet
• all-inclusive price starting at £1,820 per person.
The audience for the concerts is made up exclusively by participants on the festival - a maximum of 220 people.
There's a range of hotel accommodation to choose from, including the 5-star Randolph Hotel, 4-stars The Old Bank Hotel and Old Parsonage Hotel and the 3-star Mercure Eastgate Hotel. There is also the option to stay in rooms in Magdalen College or New College.
