Italy Tours
Led by expert lecturers and meticulously planned by staff in Italy and the UK, our guided tours to Italy allow you to experience and learn more about its art, history, archaeology, gastronomy and music. These cultural tours to Italy visit the length and breadth of this extraordinary country, taking in some of the most remarkable sites and sights in the history and civilization of Europe, or indeed of the world. Our small-group guided tours to Italy visit the most renowned culturally- and historically-rich cities, such as Rome, Venice and Florence, as well as a host of lesser-known towns and regions, like Ferrara, Mantova, Lucca, the Venetian Hills and Basilicata. Highlights include private visits to the Basilica di San Marco and the Sistine Chapel.
Leonardo & Michelangelo
- A new tour for 2012
- A survey in Milan, Florence and Rome of works by the two Florentine masters

Connoisseur's Rome

Florence: Cradle of the Renaissance
- Best place for an art-history tour – highly influential art, wonderful architecture.
- The Renaissance occupies centre stage; mediaeval and other periods are not ignored.

Opera in Turin & Milan
- Three performances at two of Italy’s most prestigious opera houses, accompanied by some of the finest northern Italian art and architecture.
- Includes a guided tour of La Scala and its museum.
- Led by both a cultural historian and an art historian.
The Art History of Venice
- Wide-ranging survey of art and architecture with an emphasis on the Renaissance.
- Private after-hours visit to San Marco.
- Avoids the crowds of busier months, lower maximum number than most of our tours.
Pompeii & Herculaneum
- Perhaps the most exciting tour possible dealing with Roman archaeology.
- The two principal sites buried by the ad 79 eruption of Vesuvius plus Greek Paestum and the Naples Archaeological Museum.
- Lesser-visited sites such as Cumae and Pozzuoli.
Sicily
- Covers the whole island, including the main sights and many lesser known ones.
- The whole gamut – Ancient Greek, Roman, mediaeval (particularly Norman), Renaissance, Baroque and later.
- A full tour but carefully paced. Hotel changes kept to a minimum – only three hotels in thirteen days.
Normans in the South
- Splendid Romanesque architecture, largely built by Norman conquerors.
- Also later mediaeval buildings from the Hohenstaufen and Angevin dynasties, with moments of later flamboyant Baroque.
- Attractive town centres and striking raw limestone landscapes.
The Heart of Italy
- An excellent introduction to the art and architecture of the region.
- Art and architecture of Umbria and some of Tuscany (the Marches are not included).
- One of our longest established and most popular tours, constantly updated.
Palladian Villas
- A survey of nearly all the villas designed by Andrea Palladio (1508–80).
- Stay throughout in Vicenza, Palladio’s home town and where he built many palaces.
- With many special appointments, the itinerary would be impossible for independent travellers.
Our lecturer brought Ancient Rome to light in an interesting, humorous and informative manner.
A most satisfactory choice of Roman sites. Some of course I had seen before but our lecturer’s excellent commentary made them come alive.The mixture of open sites plus museums was well thought out.
