Monasteries of Moldavia - In the foothills of the Carpathians
- Fortified 15th and 16th-century Orthodox monasteries, wonderfully painted.
- Scenically enchanting.
- Also provides insight into modern Romania.
- Some long coach journeys and two internal flights.
Mentioned below are other holidays that fall either side of this one. If you would like to book two or more holidays in a row, it will be your responsibility to make your own way between them, however we are happy to offer advice if necessary. The exceptions are tours that are specifically offered as 'pre-festival' or 'post-festival' tours – for these we provide a transfer between tour and festival where needed. Please note that our online booking process allows for only one tour to be booked at a time so please contact us if you would like to book more than 1 tour or music festival.
Cave Art of France
- A new tour for 2012.
- This tour encompasses some of the most important Prehistoric caves in Europe including Lascaux II, Peche Merle and Niaux.
- Great art, whatever its function or the ‘artist’s’ intention, in an area of outstanding natural beauty with charming villages.
Palladian Villas
- A survey of nearly all the villas designed by Andrea Palladio (1508–80).
- Stay throughout in Vicenza, Palladio’s home town and where he built many palaces.
- With many special appointments, the itinerary would be impossible for independent travellers.
Ancient Rome
- Comprehensive exploration of Rome’s ancient remains, in situ and in museums.
- This archaeological tour visits Ostia and Tivoli outside the city.
- Good 4-star hotel near Piazza Farnese.
Sicily
- Covers the whole island, including the main sights and many lesser known ones.
- The whole gamut – Ancient Greek, Roman, mediaeval (particularly Norman), Renaissance, Baroque and later.
- A full tour but carefully paced. Hotel changes kept to a minimum – only three hotels in thirteen days.
Walking in Tuscany
- Five half-day walks through some of the most stunningly beautiful countryside in Europe.
- Visits a selection of minor masterpieces of art and architecture and vernacular building.
- Based in two tiny towns in topographically-diverse areas of Tuscany.
Andalucía
- Three nights in each of the major cities: Granada, Córdoba and Seville.
- Begin in Málaga with the Picasso Museum, and also visit the lesser-known towns of Baeza, Úbeda and Ecija.
- Varied itinerary covering the great Moorish sites, mediaeval, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, fine art collections and gardens.
Walking the Thames Valley
- A new tour for 2012.
- Walk between two and six miles a day along stretches of the towpath between Richmond and the source of the Thames, and through the gentle hills which flank the valley.
- Visit villages, churches, country houses, gardens, historic bridges and other significant buildings and cultural manifestations.
Our lecturer was knowledgeable, articulate, sociable and patient.
It was a wonderful trip. The monasteries are truly amazing and we couldn’t have had a better lecturer.The local guide was excellent with impressively fluent English.We were amazed by how little we spent.Enjoyed lovely peaceful rural settings of most of the monasteries.
