Professor Richard Stokes

Professor of Lieder at the Royal Academy of Music and recently retired as teacher of German at Westminster School. His books include Complete Cantatas of J.S. Bach, The Book of Lieder and translations of Kafka’s Metamorphosis and The Trial. He has lectured at the Edinburgh Festival, given masterclasses at Aldeburgh and collaborated on two books of poems by Alfred Brendel. In 2012 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for services to German culture.
