Cultural tours in Spain
Three architectural masterpieces – the Alhambra in Granada, La Mesquita in Córdoba and Seville’s Alcazar – dominate the history and landscape of Andalucía and feature prominently in our small-group cultural tours of Spain, led by our outstanding team of Hispanophile lecturers.
The sun-drenched south is balanced by the cool caves of the north, where paintings date back 20,000 or more years, and the mellow old towns of Castile and Leon in Spain’s beautiful heart. We eat in Michelin-starred splendour in San Sebastian (where another rare treat is lunch in a private gastronomic club), walk the highlights of the Camino de Santiago and explore the Romanesque churches of the Pyrenees.
There is more fabulous food in Valencia and Andalucía, an exposition of Gaudí’s Modernist Barcelona and the chance to see Picasso’s Guernica in Madrid. Tours are scheduled to avoid heat and crowds and accommodation is generally in an agreeable mix of paradores and converted historic buildings.

Having read Classics for my degree I always hoped to visit these sites in Turkey. The time of year was good, being not too hot or full of tourists, so I seized the moment! The tour was beautifully organised; it was a wonderful experience, and we were very privileged to be in such a small group. "

My highlights featured more recent history, namely the UNESCO towns of Berat and Gjirokastra, the citadel at Kruja (excellent Ethnographic museum, intriguing and amusing Skanderbeg Museum) and Tirana. "
