Dr Stephen A. Murphy

Stephen holds a PhD from SOAS where he is now the Pratapaditya Pal Reader (Associate Professor) in Curating and Museology of Asian Art. He specializes in the art and archaeology of Buddhism and Hinduism in first millennium CE Southeast Asia with a focus on Thailand and Laos. Prior to joining SOAS, Stephen held curatorial and research posts at the Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and is the author of Buddhist Landscapes of the Khorat Plateau, a study of Buddhism in Northeast Thailand and Central Laos. His expertise in the restitution of cultural heritage in Thailand brings unique insight to this tour.
