In each case, the format of the tour remains the same. A first-rate lecturer brings the location and subject to life, while a tour manager takes care of ticketing and travel. The basic price includes a contribution to what would usually be charged by way of a single supplement; the bulk of it being absorbed by us.
Of course, solo travellers are welcome on all our tours. Thirty years’ experience has taught us that the combination of ravishing locations, good conversation and fascinating subject matter is ideal for anyone travelling on their own. But these three trips offer an exceptional opportunity to share an interest with like-minded people.
The three departures that we are running solely for solo travellers are the following:
St Petersburg – pictures and palaces (28 September–5 October 2018). Led by Dr Alexey Makhrov, Russian art historian.
Samarkand and Silk Road Cities – with Khiva, Bukhara, Tashkent & Shakhrisabz (2–12 October 2018). Led by Professor Charles Melville, specialist in Central Asian history.
Civilisations of Sicily – Mediterranean crossroads: Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Islamic, Norman, Spanish & Italian. (12–24 November 2018). Led by Dr Philippa Joseph, historian and expert on Sicilian cultures.
