Professor Erika Doss
Erika Doss has spent four decades studying American art, from Pollock's Abstract Expressionism to the murals and monuments that shape how communities see themselves. Her work explores what this art reveals about civic life and public feeling. Her Midwest roots run deep: a Wisconsin undergraduate degree, then a doctorate from the University of Minnesota. Now Distinguished Professor at UT Dallas's Edith O'Donnell Institute of Art History, she has held fellowships at the Smithsonian, Stanford and the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum Research Center, and her books – including the Eldredge Prize-winning Benton, Pollock, and the Politics of Modernism – have shaped how museums and scholars think about American painting.
